After you leave Clingmans Dome and continue down Newfound Gap Road toward Cherokee, you will travel approximately one-half mile to the Oconoluftee Valley Overlook, affording you spectacular views of the Oconoluftee River Valley. After a quick descent of the ridge, you come to Bales Cemetery and trails end at Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. It is wide and level, ascending first through a cut-over forest of small tulip trees.
