When and how did Jan & Antonina die? Like too many historical movies, THE ZOOKEEPER'S WIFE sags in the middle and went on too long. He offers to take the prize animals to his zoos in Berlin and Munich to save them.

There is some violence in this movie including: Children under five are most likely to be frightened by scary visual images, such as monsters, physical transformations. She calls them all by name and hand-feeds them. I blame the editor, who needed to do a better job of making sure the book flowed from point to point, not stopped and started willy nilly. But Ackerman is a mystical sort, and I think she conflates her own view of life onto these characters. At times it was a bit overwritten for my taste. Some received extensive training about how to behave in a non-Jewish manner. The zoo however was near anti-aircraft guns and thus an immediate target for the Germans when they invaded Poland. Antonina, who is pregnant and has been on bedrest for a number of months, starts getting up and moving around again. Supposedly the book drew on Antonina's diary and a lot of the book reads like a transposed diary. Antonina sometimes returns to the ruined zoo to check in on the animals they've left in the care of teenage boys. There was lots of interesting information and the main characters were amazing.
