Underlying the main plot, that of survival under severely shocking conditions and different planes of injury, a sub-plot involving cross characters leads the well-paced storyline through rescue, examining how the characters handle the lingering post-trauma issues. And the scene, and her body, is not pretty. It makes you question your own scruples and wonder what you would do in a situation such as this. Exploring the themes of grief, friendship, family, and acceptance, it hits deep. However, if I just wanted a lesson in depression there would be no need to listen to a book. The tears shed and the grief that comes after tragedy. An incredible ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to "In An Instant" by Suzanne Redfearn! It's a family weekend getaway with the dysfunctional Miller family to the mountains and the family cabin.

In an instant is unrelentingly uncomfortable and openly problematic, from the tragedy of two deaths (both traumatic, but one really upsetting because it felt like it was only there to further the plot); to the despicable, ableist behaviour of many characters (and abhorrent treatment of); to even finn's dad making sexual innuendos with his decades-younger nurse. An argument in and of itself. Bottom line: i would NOT recommend this book, and i am appalled at the rave reviews it has gotten. Finn is also a viewer to the aftermath as she is stuck between our living world and the afterlife. However, I still wanted to write something to try to show just how amazing I thought this book was.
