Let me just tell you to have a box of tissues on standby, and probably also some chocolate or ice cream or something, and maybe a puppy to hold if you can spare one? A car crash, an elevator, an explosion, choking on food? Would recommend the audiobook. There's nothing you can do to stop it, and you have no idea how or when during that day it's going to happen. Death calls just after midnight. Yeeeeah.. this was boring. In fact, quite a lot of deaths in this book would have been avoided had Death Cast never given the call. Oh, and he's also hilarious. This novel has been picked up to be adapted into a television series. Imagine you are told you have 24-hours to live. Mateo says goodbye to his comatose father and Rufus waits for him outside the room but comes back in time to witness him singing his father's favorite song for him. From there they go to a dance club and Rufus's friends, finally released from questioning by the police, meet with him and post to Instagram where they are. That presents a lot of challenges for him and a lot of blame befalls him unfairly because Death-Cast can be viewed by some as the reason people are dying. Last Friend is an app created for Deckers (people who have received the Deathcast call) to meet up and spend their final hours on Earth with a stranger. I think it made me cry more than any other book I can even think of and I would read it again in a second. It will make you cry.

Looking back over the story, I feel like it has a great premise (which is revealed by the blurb) and a great ending (which is revealed by the title), but the middle chunk that we must read the book to discover lets it down. Based on the description and the vibe that people give it many assume it to be an LGBTQ romance when it's actually a story of strong friendship above anything else.

What I will say for now is: ADAM YOU ARE SO CRUEL, MY HEART CANNOT FORGIVE YOU. I HATED those side character POVs. "I think, especially with everything that we've encountered in the pandemic, ("We Both Die at the End") has kind of given people a chance to take a step back and see what they value most in life and how they can make the most out of each of their days and not take things for granted anymore.
