That being said, let's get to why I loved the War of Two Queens. I was happily disappointed! I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*. And I can never look away. However, she suddenly finds herself in the clutches of an ancient beast she's only ever heard of in legends. I have loved Kieran, and want him to have his own epic love story with his own special person. It did drag for me in spots, got repetitive and I found myself daydreaming. But then I am biased as I prefer the wolf over the Atlantian any day! But this might be why I didn't really care about Casteel's chapters. We can't all love the same stories because we are all different.

He's all shades of cruel, smug and vindictive. And this time, the Never King and the Lost Boys aren't willing to let me go. It's not enough that she must learn how to use her magic and undergo a trial to prove her worthiness; in order to claim her title, Helena must find the man who carries the other half of her soul.

I don't know why that is, but I didn't care for the alternating perspectives. This book is not a standalone. All of that changes the day the Veil shatters, unleashing the fae upon our world once again. Poppy is powerful as hell and only continues to gain power as she completes the Culling. It's Cas, and Cas only. When her childhood friend returns home and tells her that she is the prophesied ruler of the Chosen, those blessed with the gift of magic, her quiet life goes up in flames. The other reason was that A Shadow in the Ember was just so amazing that The War of Two Queens just wasn't doing it for me. Kieran, Casteel and Poppy do perform the The Joining and it was tasteful, critical to the story, and I didn't find it to be out of character at all. And I will listen to it in audiobook as the narrators, Stina Nielsen and Tim Campbell, did an amazing job at keeping me enthralled for more than twenty-six hours! It was a well written book, I've looked forward to reading it for a long time. But I will probably be lowering my expectations for future books. But it bothers me that the climax and ending were so scrunched and fast paced. When an insane stranger is murdered at the inn where she works, Trouble becomes the next Soulbearer for the disembodied god of chaos, Loku. Once again the story is a bit ruined by the cringe sex scenes... Not sure if it's the author or the way it's narrated.
