One of the basic rules of firearm safety is to treat every firearm as if it were loaded. The magazine spring is what engages the bolt catch. Still working on the other one... maybe just a wee bit more? Before you start filing, try the catch without the spring and see if the catch moves up high enough to engage the bolt without binding. Considering it mechanically, I think there's only one place that kind of interference can occur, where I've indicated in the attached pic a couple posts up.
