I will explain why in this review. The story of Made in Abyss follows a young girl named Riko who lives in the city of Orth. I really like how much this part emphasizes the spirituality of the Abyss, even if it's through the corrupted lens of Bondrewd's ambitions. Even with no mention of a church surrounding the Abyss, the characters and narrative have already treated the netherwold with so much awe that it makes perfect sense that some would view it as a god itself.
It builds upon it and harnesses it to bring its characters and audience to a place of reaffirmation rather than misery. That image of Reg hugging Nanachi tight, both heaving with sadness, won't leave me any time soon. Toothy monster of shocking visage that wouldn't hurt a fly? If a show is lacking in quality, like Made in Abyss is, entertainment factor can be redeeming enough to make a show worth watching.
And the movie seems to end with this impression of telling Hana "welp, you did your best! " Is there a definitive answer here? It's beautiful to watch, painful to approach, and disappointing once you open it. I enjoyed it enough because I was watching it with a friend and we basically were just having fun ragging on it, really. No beating around the bush today, Made in Abyss' finale left me a sobbing wreck who needed to lie down immediately after it ended. This week in anime, Nick and Steve pick up the pieces in the wake of its emotional conclusion. She does get punished, which makes for an interesting turn in the plot, though the gratuitousness is similar to Evil Dead levels which detracts from the immersion.

Kinema Citrus hadn't made a good looking show since this one, which shows that they've taken a step forward. I've been wondering about this ever since it made the rounds on Twitter, but I've read that the Blu Ray release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly had a green tint problem? It's truly a unique show, the kind we don't get very often at all. Shocking, harrowing, but irrevocably tied to the established ideas of the series that allows it all to work without offering larger context or more detailed explanations. It's about children who delve into a great chasm called "The Abyss" in order to find treasures to sell in order for their village to profit. It's a staggering accomplishment, and recognition to Kevin Penkin. Made in Abyss ' first season ended this week, leaving behind an ocean of tears for many fans. Bravo, Kevin Penkin! There are so many layers to this tragedy. He's exactly what I feared Ozen to be when we first encountered her.
Precise drawing, outstanding design and composition, exquisite shadows and lighting - it has it all and then, the characters. What I mean by that, the only incentive it's giving you is the scenery porn, the torture porn, and the constant unknown of what lies ahead. Yes, of course, I'm talking about Made in Aby--[uncontrollable sobbing]. While many people told me the background music added to the horrific events that happened in the anime, I disagree. I am slowly watching Vinland Saga (just 4 episodes so far) and I'm really impressed by it. Said information is limited to items and creatures. Anyway, the first half of the finale is all about Nanachi convincing Reg to kill Mitty, or as we come to understand it, to free Mitty's soul. It seems to be that if you surround yourself with strong people that you will be able to work towards your goals effectively. Bondrewd, on the other hand, loves human life. Even if it's a one-way journey, their bonds are strong enough to bear it.

It's much more uh, Bloodborne-y. Entertainment Factor. We finally get Nanachi and Mitty's backstory, and it's a doozy, to put it lightly. It's a beautiful moment that's as sad as it is enchanting. It's painful to watch at times, and there's some truly wonderful visual storytelling that does wonders at conveying some really difficult feelings. Call me cynical, but this felt like an oversimplification of what could have been a powerful tale of overcoming adversity. The middle portion of the finale was just one lengthy emotional gutpunch for me. Riko is wearing nothing fairly often in the show, Reg gets his genitalia inspected at multiple points during the show and there are a few scenes where children suffer in extreme ways, resulting in death some of the time. I realize that this is a bit of an unusual opinion because apparently this won Anime of the Year a few years back? And yet it doesn't feel like cruelty solely committed to shock the audience. I don't know who mixed the sound on her crying but I want them to die. I will be inconsolable if we don't get a second season from the same production crew, but this season will still stand alone as a rare triumph, and I cannot recommend it enough. Is a huge miscarriage of justice. There are not even any traditions or folklore regarding the explorers and how they are living around the abyss. Very interesting take. I'd also like to put a trigger warning regarding this anime: These young children are sexualized to an uncomfortable degree.
It's very much God in the sense of the cosmic and the unknowable. It's a perpetually ongoing mystery, existing for the sole purpose of teasing the viewer, before it overstays its welcome and becomes nonsensical in the likes of is no sense of meaningful adventure. Even if there hadn't been hype around this, I would not have liked it all that much. Young Riko has spent her entire childhood dreaming of exploring the Abyss, an enormous pit and series of caves filled with wonders and terrors that only the staunchest Cave Raiders have survived to bring back ancient artifacts from its depths. It's a weird and fascinating place with its very own laws of physics, mythology and smerizing scenery, lethal monsters, priceless treasures - the Abyss has it all, has it everywhere, has it in any autiful flower meadow, eager to kill you dead (or worse)? She's basically crying all the time, and girl, I can relate now. You would think that with as much horror and trauma these two kids go through that they would have some kind of development, but there really isn't any, particularly for Riko. The tragedy that the only way for Reg to show compassion is to take Mitty's life. The soundtrack was very appropriate and well made. I don't think that I would have dropped it, I didn't dislike it that badly, but I have very little interest in continuing the series. This is a refreshing perspective, thanks for that.
And Reg remains stagnant because he's suffering from amnesia, which is a typical anime trope that is also lazy. While it's maybe not an all-time favorite just yet, it's earned every bit of praise it's gotten and then some. Instead, it tries to be a celebration of diversity in the most trite way possible, and that's why it was a big dissappointment for me after such a solid start. The new PV also features the brutal White Whistle, Bondrewd, who turned Nanachi and Mitty into Hollows.
Everything they say or do is happening in a forced and artificial way since it happens exactly when it needs to happen. Votes are used to help determine the most interesting content on RYM.
