No Wave was a short-lived, avant-garde offshoot of '70s punk, based almost entirely in New York City's Lower East Side from about 1978-1982. Am i the only one who feels this way. Opossum is the predecessor group to Morpheus. As is often the case with Embryo, they were the leaders not the followers. A good one for the genre, and a new addition for my Kraut Fusion list! Breathy, high-register female vocals or almost whispered male vocals are usually the means of lyrical delivery; lyrics are generally introspective and existential in nature. So this is, this is, this is. And so yes, all the usual suspects come rushing through here: Brainstorm, Thirsty Moon, Eiliff, Missus Beastly, Kollektiv, Tortilla Flat, and so forth. This one features organist Steve Robinson from Twenty Sixty Six and Then, and plays down their later fusion tendencies. By the 1980s it seems there were hundreds of such releases. Fantastic Krautrock album, with a jazz underpinning. 'Tango Wolperaiso' is also a weak improv entry, but at least it fits the motif. Power Pop isn't BAD.

I know that music is cyclical, but it seems rock music, at least in the traditional sense, has moved in the last 10 years from the forefront of the radio top 40 to an almost 2nd tier level. Another one of the all-time greats. The CD adds the 16 minute Just Arrived, from a concert a few weeks later. Cowboy later worked the "hip hop" cadence into a part of his stage performance. Even the synthesizer they use has only one sound. Fortunately for all concerned, their debut would have none of it, and Osmose stands as a testament to the original forbearers of creativity, an era that has yet to be revived much less surpassed. The characteristics of The Blues is somewhat hard to define due to the fact that, as with all forms of music, the individual expression varies from performer to performer and from region to region, the common factor though, remains the use of the blue notes.
The Rastafarian religious beliefs are also a frequent topic in the songs, and because the use of marijuana is encouraged by these beliefs, the songs stirred some controversy. What's absolutely phenomenal about the entire piece, is that it never stops changing. Their brand of music was clearly influenced by Soft Machine, in that legendary period between "II"and "III" (think Noisette here), and it's a brilliant blend of sophisticated progressive jazz rock, mixed with a whimsical psychedelic pop streak that is irresistible. Some are slick and tedious, others had a raw edge that is highly appealing. Alternative, like all musical forms, has many sub-genres containing Grunge, Progressive Rock, Gothic Rock, Heavy Metal, Punk, New Wave, Techno, etc.
