Trunk Wont Stay Open After Its Lifts Up
It was hard to lift open and it would never stay up properly. I have heard you can install a spring on them to help make them stronger. Get in, Sit down, Shut up, and Hang on!!! Can't be to hard of a fix. I noticed the new popper seems quite a bit stiffer than the others. Pm, i never knew thats how they blow. My trunk won't stay up and go. It's about time for me to replace mine ejected itself into the trunk lid a few weeks ago. My trunk does the same thing, lemme know if you fix it. He used struts rated 10lbs higher than they recommended, so it kinda lifts itself about halfway up before you have to do anything.

My Trunk Won't Stay Up And Go
If anyone is interested, I will find the link that gives you a parts list and instructions to just get rid of those bars and use the gas struts, like the hatchbacks use. If yours is a sedan it doesn't have shocks, only the hatch's do! These get dirty, break, and just don't spring back up after a while if you don't keep them clean & lubricated. Then, stop helping... My trunk won't stay up song. My trunk never stays up. I did a rebuild thread on these.... Thats what it sounds like to me.
Here's what I did as a band-aid fix: I did this on both sides using a small bunjee cord. Check for breaks, bends, or to see if they have come disconnected on either side of the bars. I got new struts and it does the same thing.
My Trunk Won't Stay Up For A
It is really simple, it was originally made to be for the 7th gen civics because those bars are in the way of any aftermarket speakers, but it could be easily done on the 4th gen civics. Now it pops open nicely. They seemed like they were in order. If I open the trunk then it will stay open, thats not the problem. If you get in the trunk looking up at the rear speaker magnets you will see some bars crossing from side to side, those are the springs that hold it up. My trunk won't stay up for a. How do i fix/adjust this?
You know Ive had this problem with mine since I got it way back when. As seabeach740 said you need to look at the bumper stops and if at least one is not springy then twist them out and investigate. With mine I can open it on the first try if I'm holding onto the trunk and lift exactly when it releases. Last edited by IcemanBHE; 03-21-2010 at 10:08 PM. In the mean-time, I'm going to attach a spring to the post that sticks out of the "arm" and to somewhere else so that it will hold the trunk open, but will stretch when the trunk closes, but I'd like to know a permanent solution to the problem. 95 840Ci, Calypso Red/Silver, 83k - 99 740i, Black/Black, 185k, Alpina Mods - 01 740i, Titanium/Silver, 40k, Sport Pkg. My Trunk Won't Stay Up And Play
As I was installing the stereo in the sedan today, The trunk lid kept falling on my head until I rigged up a latch using a coat-hanger. I dont know the difference and cant tell the difference. The torsion rods that keep it open are secure, and I can't figure out why there isn't enough tension to keep it open. I'd try that - should reset the target open position. I don't understand what else could be wrong. You did check the springs- or does it use pneumatics like the hatchbacks... No pneumatics. I will get the link from my friend who did it to his car. It can be a bear when the hood gets stuck closed because the ejector buttons have stopped working. That saves me 50 bucks! Too bad i already bought struts!
Make sure they are both connected to the arms. Results 1 to 25 of 29. 07-11-2003, 12:54 AM. Easy to verify; When it opens, help it by lifting manually about 2-4kg of thrust, help it holding position when it is fully open, observe that it will stay there.

How do you replace the trunk lid lift cylinder? Overload will be sensed, and it will close. I assume when i press the fob or trunk switch it should open enough so that i can manually open it all the way. I'm not sure how the 4 doors are.
Moved the pics... Relinked. Don't look for springs - there are "bumper stops" that get stuck in the down position that you need to find. I also fixed 1 hood one and lubed them. That's my problem i guess if there aren't any. The problem has to be in one or both of those bars. Did your trunk ever stay up? The best solution is to go to Acura, let them look at it, and have them replace the shocks (or whatever is broken). As long as you have not "shot off" the bottom spring retaining can do this. There are currently 1 users browsing this thread. Those two beams move as you raise and lower the trunk, they are basically torsion beams.
You should be able to press down on the smaller, pop up cylinder & it should spring back up. The bars in mine don't seem to be warped in any way, and as far as I can tell, they are secured properly, so I don't know what the problem could be. As all of the oil had drained through the seals the shock lacked lubrication and made it really difficult to lift. Steptronic Sealbeach740.
