I was parked and put the gear shift into neutral. I did what you said about the neutral.... and it worked! Drive modes allow you to further maximize traction and dynamics at the push of the button. The advantage of this system is that you are in control. But understanding how to shift into those settings is another. My 92 did the same think and a ford mechanic told me to remove the rubber boot from around the shifter and pour a quart of 30wt over it and thats what i did and used it another 6 years trouble free.......
