Ryan Gosling's performance alone is enough to elevate this movie above others in the same vein, and to the film's credit, its attempts at conveying emotion were all pulled off exceptionally. Ryan Gosling gives the best performance in his career in a film about love, community, healing, and the most unique coming of age story I have ever borne witness too. Worst movie I've ever seen! I saw the age rating after watching it and didn't understand why. I thought it was extremely thought-provoking, wonderfully strange, and ultimately redemptive. Lar's friends and family would have ignored the problem because he would really just be a lost hope. I think that hopefully everyone can relate to him. We think about our experiences;about the loneliness and love that we've known. We might need this movie when we feel like we've been a little too hard on ourselves and need to contemplate our strangeness in a compassionate way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars.
