I don't want to turn this into a holster review, but I do want to stress the impact the holster made to the carry of the M&P Shield Plus. 2: M&P Shield Plus Magazine Capacity. In fact, it quickly became my new favorite holster. That shorter magazine will come in handy if you choose to pocket carry the Shield, though. If I were going to carry this gun, I would upgrade the Sights to something better. Bear in mind that many pistols use locks and others use releases. If it could not release the slide, the slide would always stay locked back, right? Many people believed that it was because of that case, but it actually wasn't. I myself rather release the slide manually regardless, just pull it to the rear slightly and quickly and that's how I have always trained for magazine change drills anyway... Hinged triggers don't always work for all users, and I was one of them. My take is this: the Shield Plus is an excellent shooter. This keeps the learning curve short for those who have already developed muscle memory to the previous Shield and want to retain that. Racking the slide in the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Plus is heavy.

The Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Plus seems to do just that. The Plus brings the Shield's round count from 9 rounds to 14 (these numbers include the one in the chamber) without adding a ton of width—less than an eighth of an inch, to be exact. The reason I'm OK with this is the phenomenon was predictable and could be traced directly to fully loading the 13-round magazine. I have just never regularly used it to avoid wear. Before hitting the range, I measured its breaking point at five pounds, ten ounces. I took the gun to the range the next day and fired a few more rounds. Yes, not a slide release. Both take different actions to correct. I took my brand new shield to the range, and found the slide release to be extremely tough to engage - had to use both of my thumbs! I believe the gun will work, as long as you observe this rule. Reliability is undoubtedly the single most important criteria when choosing a defensive handgun. This one would be difficult to notice without something to compare it against, but the Shield Plus' grip is long – from front strap to back strap – and narrow. I think it's really something about the shape of the trigger shield that has improved the looks for me.
