Humanoids From The Deep Rape Scene.Fr — Mulan: Taking A Different Approach
Rob Bottin, who would later go on to create the creature effects in John Carpenter's The Thing and Joe Dante's The Howling, designed the Humanoids as well as the gory aftermath of their killings, and both are quite convincing, if slightly crude. It's an extremely narrow presentation without much boost to it – you may even have to raise the volume on your system to get the most out of it. The Final Score - 5/10. Alex and Deb bail the party early, and head back to the beach house to be rid of the cryptic locals, and discover a bit of history of the town that suggests what might be happening. Cindy Weintraub as Carol Hill. Jim Hill (McClure) and his wife Carol witness the explosion. The monster-suits are some of the most efficient ever and they look truly despicable. Executive producer Roger Corman deemed Peeter's version of the film lacking in the required exploitation elements needed to satisfy the movie's intended audience. The big assault on the carnival is horribly shot and goes on for way too long with all the extras screaming and running long after everybody should've gotten away. The two rape scenes in Humanoids From The Deep, though distasteful, last about five seconds each so I really don't see what the problem was [and this is coming from someone who often finds the portrayal of rape in cinema very morally questionable]. As a result, the film is also rather predictable.

Humanoids From The Deep
The bulk of his movies are action, horror, or science fiction, and over the years, he's launched the careers of some of Hollywood's biggest players, including Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, and Jack Nicholson. Plot: experiment, science, mutant, body horror, scientist, mad scientist, teleportation, mutation, transformation, genetics, laboratory, tragic love... Time: 80s. But a mechanical error causes the unfortunate release of a "bad" batch of salmon, and catastrophe, of course, ensues. The final sequence, in which the town's annual carnival is besieged by a half-dozen or so humanoids, is actually very exciting and looks like money was spent to get the chaos and carnage just right. In 1980, he produced a little monster movie, inspired by Jaws and his own production Piranha, that would become one of the more controversial of his career: Humanoids from the Deep, a movie about fish monsters who come ashore to impregnate nubile young women. Screamers, John Frankenheimer's Prophecy, Tarantula, a hint of H. P. Lovecraft…. Racist Hank Slattery, who takes out his biased aggression on a local fisherman Johnny Eagle who is against the cannery, and several others, are for the cannery because it will make life more prosperous for them. The matching attributes are highlighted in bold. Without a town anyone cares about saving, it falls to that most generic of monster movie cliches to motivate our heroes – rescue the daughter/girlfriend from the clutches of the Humanoids. Jerry is abruptly pulled under. The group is quickly taken to a vast underwater city... But it can never be said that Corman isn't a shrewd businessman, and he definitely knows how to make a buck. This attack goes on for at least 5 minutes with a woman screaming non-stop throughout.
Story: When shark conservationist Dr. Misty Calhoun is invited to consult on a top-secret project run by pharmaceutical billionaire Carl Durant, she is shocked to learn that the company is using unpredictable and highly aggressive bull sharks as its test... The carnival scenes are particularly bad, the clumsy editing not able to hide the fact that footage shot 16 years apart is being used. Frog soldiers and the resulting government cover up and military involvement somehow managed to make the original's idea that prehistoric fish fed on genetically altered salmon and evolved into Humanoids sound almost plausible! Will anyone survive the mutant fishes attack? I know it came after this film, but when I watch Humanoids From the Deep, something always catches in the back of my mind, and I finally figured it out this time: this film is Redneck C. H. U. D. So imagine the premise of C. but instead of urban homeless victims, we get rural fishermen, and instead of sewer mutants, we get somewhat Lovecraftian river mutants. The rapes themselves are indefensible, but they are incompetently shot so they're impossible to take seriously.
This scene is an absolute marvel, foremost because the chaos feels unorchestrated and therefore real. Whether it's Island Claws also from 1980, Eye of the Beast, a TV movie from 2007, or this one, there's always a terribly written racism subplot. In May of 1980, they released one of their most graphic films up to that point: Humanoids from the Deep (aka Monster). It never gets to the point of being a horror-comedy, but nobody would mistake this as an art-house slow-burn film, either. Story: A menacing shark-like predator attacks a Hawaiian tourist area in this low-budget creature feature. A disappointing movie, one that promises a lot but ultimately fails at delivering anything but occasional flashes of gore, boobs & lots of screaming. The tools are the same, namely jump scare noises, horror music stings, and buckets of slime. The town's police chief and a government scientist team up to stop the monster, which is quickly killing off the town's citizenry.
Humanoids From The Deep Full Movie
Word spread among young guys and male teens back then and this was a modest hit for Roger Corman's New World Pictures. But this success is not admirable. Plot: monster, dinosaur, reincarnation, octopus, murder, creature, hypnotist, beach, hypnosis, aquatic humanoid, rock band, animal horror. While Corman may have questioned the level of violence Barbara Peeters used, one can not question that she executed it to perfection as the gore fx are incredible. It's a clear indicator as to what New World wanted out of it, which was a balls-to-the-wall genre film that could stand toe to toe with films like Alien (which the final shot of Humanoids from the Deep is clearly influenced by). Cue much killing & raping as the creatures burst from the sea & begin their rampage. It's also another follow-up to Alien (1979), as indicated by the climactic scene.
By comparison, a similarly budgeted and much nastier movie, Dagon (2001), was more visceral and embraced the fishiness of the Deep Ones much more than this film did. Meegan King as Jack Potter. There is a trans character who is played so broad, however, that almost undoes whatever seriousness the film was trying to achieve. Style: semi serious, scary, captivating, suspense, psychotronic. Style: scary, serious, suspenseful, cult film. Salacious, to be sure, horrific even, but it's horror at the expense of good taste. Each is also equally capable of inspiring riotous fear in swarms of beach-goers. In an amusing aside, Amazon must have the European cut or something, as the title is Monster with Humanoids from the Deep in tiny letters. The first demonstration of this trait takes us by surprise: a young, attractive couple is frolicking along the beach, when the boy is pulled underneath the surface and instantaneously disfigured (this action is subsequent to the four times the boy has pretended to be pulled underneath the surface by an unseen monster). Critical reviews were far from laudatory.
Roger Corman knew he had a dog on his hands and he spiced it up the only way he knows how, and there's only one reason I'm talking about this movie almost 40 years later… Mutant Fish-Monster rapes. The eccentric couple who are renting the space out is incredibly welcoming but definitely odd. If watching our heroes meander through a fun house while there are frequent cutaways to panic on the midway feels like you are watching two different movies, it's because you are! Categories 31 Days of Horror V. Regardless of its utilitarian title, it should be stated that Humanoids from the Deep is about humanoids.

There is no doubt that you can tell that some of the film was reshot, because it really does look like two different films stuck together for a while, a crude and exploitative one, and a more subtle and thoughtful one which is as much about the conflicts between big business and small business [a quick look at all the Tescos popping up all over the country illustrates how timely this aspect of the story still is] and racial aggression, at it is about monsters. Apparently, being accused of misogyny didn't sit well with Mr. Corman, so he decided to put a woman, Barbara Peeters, on as director of the film. It's the infamous Mutant Fish-Monster Rape movie. The monsters look really good with their outsized craniums [shades of the Metaluna mutant from This Island Earth], their huge mouths and their extended forearms; a considerable amount of work went into making these creatures very different from the typical Gill-Man look and as ugly as possible, and even half-plausible as mutations half-fish and half-human. Ripley must team with a band of smugglers to keep the creatures from... This tendency on the part of our otherwise shark-like humanoids makes them rather unique monsters, in that they're not only carnivorous but libidinous. In addition to Mutant Fish-Monster rapes, this movie is pretty brutal, even by the grimy standards of 1980 exploitation films. The activists are twerps who only care until college starts again or some other cause strikes their fancy. Of course, this panic is outlasted by continual and erroneous thefts from other, better films, and having exhausted about every single one of Jaws' influences, Humanoids concludes in an epilogue taken directly from Alien. Unbeknownst to him, a common housefly manages to get inside the device and the two become one.
