Kearney Ne Art In The Park
I have been experimenting with a more neutral palette lately, using one red, blue and yellow and mixing all the grays and more saturated colors from there. The park idea was conceived from a meeting between Michael B. Yanney, a native of Kearney, and City of Kearney officials. A native of Axtell, Ne., I am an emeritus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney. For 35 years Larry Peterson served as Director of Art in the Park, with the support of the Kearney Artist Guild. I quite like the experience.

This post might be a little geeky but hang with me just a sec. In 1971, while working on his doctorate degree, Kearney State College Larry Peterson witnessed a small gathering of Kansas artists displaying their works in a park. I have a tendency to think in words, so my life is rich in patterns and descriptors but poor on a defining point. Just popping in to share my story about painting the neighborhood. And the patrons who share these arts. And best of all, so many wonderful pieces of art for sale—paintings, sculpture, jewelry, pottery. Grant + stipend from Geraldine R. Most of these paintings are of scenes from my back and front yard, I thought it would be fun to try and capture as much of my neighborhood as possible in More. The 80' Gottschalk Tower is the centerpiece to the park and overlooks the lake, amphitheater, splash pads, playgrounds, marina, flower gardens, and more. For many artists the last five months have brought feelings of uncertainty. Art in the Park received the Governor's Art Award and provides the community with the opportunity to view and purchase original art works. Each component of the park has been donated by an individual, family or group. Support includes grants from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and Artist Fellowship, Inc., and artist residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Peters Valley Craft Center, and the Pouch Cove Foundation in Newfoundland. Artists from across Nebraska beautified the strikingly pleasant afternoon with displays of their latest creations representing a broad spectrum of artistic offerings of all shapes, sizes and styles. Currently Dan Garringer, the Kearney Artist Guild, and Peterson continue the annual summer event.
When I was a kid, one of the best things about July was the County Fair. I'm so grateful for you and I'm looking forward to the beauty that will come from each one of you.
